At the southeastern end of Messinia, between the Ionian Sea and the Messinian Gulf, we meet the picturesque town of Methoni standing near its majestic castle. A place which used to be one of the most important routes in the maritime history of the Mediterranean. In front of Methoni, the ever green island of Sapienza, integrated into the Natura 2000 network is a natural monument and home to rare species of flora and fauna.

Our tour begins from the sandy beach of Methoni, near the most impressive and most beautiful castle of Peloponnese with its high walls and the famous octagonal fort. We prepare our equipment and attend a brief but comprehensive introduction to the basics of sea kayaking. We paddle with our kayaks within turquoise waters near the imposing walls of the castle which is adorned with impressive arcs, bastions and battlements.

We cross the channel with numerous ancient shipwrecks and reach the northern part of Sapienza by touching the solitary and beautiful beach on the island. Here we take a big break to rest, swim and snorkeling in crystal waters and enjoy a delicious picnic with traditional delicacies. The footpaths that surround the island leading to the impressive lighthouse through an ancient arbutus forest, an impressive natural monument and a unique ecosystem, home of muffle (wild sheep), Cretan wild goats (kri-kri), partridges, pheasants, and many other wild birds.

The activity includes a 30 minutes preparation time 2-2.5 hours paddling exploration, 1-1.5 hours free time for picnic, relaxation, snorkeling, swimming, diving and other activities. The starting point and the direction we follow is based on weather conditions and wind direction.
