Aproximately one kilometre from the historical centre of Kalamata is located the Holy Monastery of St Konstantinos and St Eleni.

The Holy Monastery of Zoodochos Pighi of Velanidia is located 6 kilometres north of Kalamata, built at an altitude of approximately 400 metres.

On the summit of mountain Ithomi, near ancient Messene, on a natural rock, stands imposingly the old Monastery of Voulkano, overlooking the Messenian valley that extends in front of it.
